One of the most important reasons for the premature destruction of pavements and poor condition of roads is the lack of firm adhesion of bitumen to the surface of mineral materials, especially acidic rocks, and as a consequence, insufficient water and frost resistance of the pavement, leading to erosion, peeling, chipping, cracking, potholes.
The adhesion of bitumen to mineral materials depends both on the adhesion properties of the bitumen and on the mineralogical composition of the mineral materials. Oil bitumen used in road construction are characterized by diverse composition and complex physical and chemical structure, which depend both on the nature of oil raw materials and on the technology of its processing. Most of the oil bitumen produced in Russia in accordance with GOST 22245-90 do not meet the necessary requirements for the index of adhesion to mineral materials due to exposure to oxidation processes during production.
Mineral materials used in road construction are characterized by different surface structures and, due to the variety of mineralogical composition, certain acid-base properties. The characteristics of the mineral material determine the nature and strength of the binder's interaction with its surface.
Accordingly, one of the main conditions for the production of high-quality bitumen concrete is a good adhesion of bitumen with mineral material, provided primarily by good wetting and chemical interaction of the active components of bitumen and mineral material. The solution to this problem can be achieved through the use of adhesion agents with surface-active properties that enhance the adsorption and chemisorption processes on the surface of the mineral material. Cationic surfactants are the most effective in the spectrum of action, adhesion index, consumption per 1 ton of bitumen, as they are most often used in road construction amidoamines, imidazolines, amino compounds and their salts.
During its activities ZAO "AMDOR" has carried out development and organized industrial production of several brands of adhesion agents. In recent years, the most widely used adhesion agents "AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10For most used bitumen and mineral materials, including acidic rocks, for example granites, the effective concentration of agents in the bitumen is in the range of 0.2-0.5%. At the same time, adhesion is provided at the level of control sample No. 1 when tested in accordance with GOST 11508-74. Adhesion agents "AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10" are characterized by technological effectiveness, retain adhesion properties when injected into bitumen at temperatures up to 160 º C for 72 hours.
Adhesion agent "AMDOR-10", which is an improved analogue of the agent "AMDOR-9", is characterized by improved organoleptic properties, lower viscosity and lower pour point (up to-3 ºC), which allows its use at low temperatures.
When applying adhesion agents "AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10" in the amount of 1.5-5kg of bitumen (0.15/0.50%): a high degree of adhesion of bitumen with mineral materials is achieved.
The most important factor in the effectiveness of the adhesion agents "AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10" is the improvement of the properties of bitumen concrete mixtures prepared on the basis of bitumen with the agent. Numerous tests carried out in specialized road laboratories allow us to make important conclusions:
Thus, the use of adhesion agents "AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10" increases the moisture and frost resistance of road pavements, which leads to an increase in their wear resistance and durability.
When applying adhesion agents "AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10" in the amount of 1.5-5 kg/t of bitumen (0.15 ÷ 0.50 %):
Specialists of ZAO "AMDOR" taking into account the requirements of road workers developed a new adhesive agent "AMDOR-20T", significantly different from the additives "AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10" in chemical structure and has a number of operational advantages:
The recommended dosage of the agent is 0.1÷0.4 % of the binder weight.
An important feature of the thermostable agent "AMDOR-20T" is the increase in the adhesive efficiency of bitumen with the additive at temperatures of 150-160 ºC during the first 2 – 3 days and its preservation up to 15 days, which makes it possible to prepare and store bitumen with the additive for a long time. Due to this feature of the additive, it can be injected when mixing in bitumen and polymer-bitumen industries, thereby reducing this operation in the asphalt concrete mixing plant.
